四六級(jí)英語作文1
In recent years with fast economic growth, many skyscrapers have appeared in big cities of China. People’s attitude towards the skyscrapers varies widely.
Some think of them as a sign of economic progress and a miracle of modern architecture. They also believe that building skyscrapers helps to solve the problem of the growing scarcity of land in the city, for they can obtain the maximum space per square meter of ground and meanwhile offer to the tenants offices and apartments that please them. Yet others, speak of the problems skyscrapers have brought. They complain that the monstrous edifices interfere with television reception, blot out the sun and create many dark sunless streets. Besides, excessively large masses of human beings working in a single gigantic building overburden public transportation. Lighting, heating, and air conditioning strain energy supplies, to the extent that skyscrapers become lavish consumers, and wasters, of electric power. Worst of all, their reflective glasses coated with silver or gold mirror films raise the temperature of the surrounding air.
With these problems and the effect the skyscrapers has exerted on the environment, more and more people have begun to wonder whether skyscrapers are necessary or desirable.

Failure is what often happens. It is everywhere in our life. Students may fail in exams, scientists may fail in their research work, and athletes may fail in competitions.
Although failure happens to everyone, attitudes towards failure are various. Some people don’t think their failure is a very important thing at all. So they pay no attention to it. As a result, they will have the same failure a period later. Some people think themselves are fools and lose their hearts in everything after they get a failure. Consequently, they spend their time and energy on useless things and they may really be fools as they have thought.
Other people are quite different from the two kinds of people mentioned above. Instead of being distressed and lost, they draw a lesson from every failure and become more experienced. After hard work, they will be successful in the end. It is said that failure is the mother of success. Success will be gained after times of failures so long as we are good at drawing lesson from our failures.
In my opinion, failure is not a bad thing, the really bad thing is taking a failure as failure or even lose our heart after failure.

Campus Life
Early in senior high school, we longed to be enrolled in a university. Now the dream has come true. But how do we college students like our campus life?
Certainly, some relish it, finding it colorful and rewarding. Besides study, they spend considerable amount of time improving themselves in various aspect. Yet others do not think much of their college life, thus do not benefit as much. In their eyes, the university is just a bigger high school. The only difference is that they have more time at their disposal without parents looking over their shoulder.
As to me, college life is ideal if only I have abundant books to read, some bosom friends to keep me company, a couple of conscientious professors to instruct me, and an easy access to the Internet.

The World Population Explosion
The human race has experienced a consistent increase in population since the beginning of its history. Famine and disease have done little to offsetthis steady increase. Too many people are added annually to the population of the world. So both the causes of population increase and the results of having more people are worth careful study.
Culture evolution is the major factor responsible for population increase. Early in human development, people invented tools to hunt animals. Later they built shelters to protect themselves. Step by step, they made life easier. As a result, fewer died from natural forces, such as harsh climate and disease.
In the past, when population grew, there was unexplored territory to inhabit. But now, almost all the habitable land has been explored.
The worlds population may reach 8.7 billion in 20xx. It is clear that world population is a serious issue that needs careful attention. Human beings are unique to solve problems through cultural evolution. Facing the world population explosion in the near future. We must carry out the birth control program in order to save the mankind and save the world.
四六級(jí)英語作文7
There are about 58 million left-behind children in rural China and over 40 million of them are under 14 years old, according to a report released by the All-China Women’s Federation in February 20xx. The report also found that more than half of the children left behind don’t live with either parent. Telephone is often the only means by which they can contact their parents.
Left-behind children can not get enough good care and necessary instruction in their everyday lives, including emotional support and study help. The biggest risk for left-behind children is that they lack of family intimacy. Intimate family care is indispensable to every child’s growth. Since most of the left-behind children are at a critical stage of development, they may develop psychological problems stemming from their parent’s absence.
With the number of left-behind children rising rapidly, efforts will be needed from rural families, schools and governments to care for this special group, who need, as it is, more communication from their parents to reduce their loneliness, psychological counseling and relative activities from schools to maintain a healthy mind, and special homes set up by local governments where they can meet other kids of the same kind and experience the warmth of society.

As is shown in the chart, the number of Chinese people traveling abroad increased gradually. For one thing, in 20xx, the number of people traveling abroad was seven point five million, which was increased to ten million in 20xx. For another, in 20xx, there were twelve point one million Chinese people traveling abroad. It is obvious that China is witnessing an ever prosperous overseas tourism.
The reasons of the increase lie in several aspects. First of all, with the implementation of Chinas reform and opening policy, chinas economy has been growing rapidly and steadily. In addition, peoples income has increased tremendously, so more and more people are now eager to see the outside world with their own eyes. Thirdly, the Chinese government has been simplifying the formalities of traveling abroad and has opened more overseas tourist destinations.
As I understand, more and more Chinese people want to travel abroad. One the one hand, at present most people can afford the fees traveling abroad. On the other hand, youngsters especially young couples treat traveling abroad as a new fashion. In conclusion, in light of the development trend of the Chinese economy, the number of outbound travelers in the future will keep increasing.
四六級(jí)英語作文9
The problem of NEET, once well-known in the UK and Japan, has been brought into public
attention now in China. NEET refers to the group of the young who are not currently engaged in education, employment or training. Most of these young people just stay at home or idle about, avoiding employment and relying on their parents.
There are mainly two reasons for this phenomenon. For one thing, with the expansion of university enrollment, an increasing number of college graduates pour into job-hunting market every year. Unfortunately, some of them are not fully prepared and thus become unemployed the time they graduate. For another, some young people are badly spolt as the only child of their family, so they psychologically and financially depend on their parents even when they are already grown-ups.
To solve this problem, first, colleges should provide pre-job training courses for the young. Second, parents should cultivate their children the sense of independence. Last but not the least, college students should equip themselves with skills and knowledge so that they will become competitive when seeking jobs.

There has been a heated discussion about whether to keep the College English Test Band 4(6) in the universities. Some people argue that the test has become an obstacle to the teaching of English on campuses, while others maintain that the advantages of the test outweigh its disadvantages.
As far as the first group of people are concerned, they give the following arguments. For one thing, many students spend most of their time preparing for the test, therefore their focus is not on learning English better but on getting a high mark. For another, many teachers don’t concentrate on how to improve the students’ abilities. They only care how many of their students can pass the test.
However, there are many people who believe the test should stay. To begin with, the test is the most effective way to measure how well the students have learned English. What’s more, we can come up with some ways to lessen the negative effect.
As far as I am concerned, each side is right in a certain way. We have to keep the test so students will have better motivation to learn English. However, we can’t attach too much importance to the scores of the test. After all, it is just a test, isn’t it? (212 words)
四六級(jí)英語作文11
These days we often hear our children groaning under the pressure of an ever-increasing burden of their studies. The schoolbags on their back are getting heavier and heavier, and the hours spent on their assignments longer and longer.
Why can’t their burden be relieved in spite of social protest? For one thing, parents have a strong desire for the early intellectual achievement of their children. They believe that if you don’t force them to read more, a golden opportunity for success will be lost and the chances of their being admitted to key schools, and then to colleges will be slim. So children are under constant pressure to score high, test well, aim first. For another, our teachers ally themselves with parents in applying pressure. Since scores are not only the mark of success or failure for a particular students, but also a measurement of a teacher’s performance, it is natural for a teacher to assign more homework for his own sake as well as for his students. Failure to produce students who win first place in school academic examinations is often seen as evidence of bad teaching.
To lighten children’s academic burden is not easy, but is worth trying, for after all parents and teachers don’t want the heavy schoolbags to crush their children.
四六級(jí)英語作文12
The early-1990s finds an unprecedented tide of rural workers flooding into big cities such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Beijing. According to a recent survey, in Shanghai alone there are more than 2.5 million migrant workers.
There is an ambivalent feeling towards rural workers. No one denies the important contribution rural workers have made to the urban development. They have done most of dirty, dangerous and underpaid jobs in heavy industries, construction sites and other fields that city residents are unwilling to enter. They have become an indispensable part of urban life to a point where the machinery of a city connot operate without those cogs, though small and unnoticed. Yet an anti-migrant attitude runs consistently through the mainstream of urban consciousness. City residents complain that migrant workers have worsened traffic and sanitation problems and have threatened to take already scarce urban jobs. They also blame them for the sharp rise in the urban crime rate.
Despite the problems posed by migrants, one thing is certain: a grand, prosperous edifice of the city is based on the work of millions of migrant workers.
四六級(jí)英語作文13
Many people copy the passages without citing the original contributors while writing theses. Some people even reproduce the theses by simply changing the author’s names and try to pass the material as their own. Take the notorious former associate professor of the X University , who copied a doctoral supervisor’s research results in his theses and sent one paper to different journal for publication. There is no doubt that plagiarism does great harm. A famous person once called academic plagiarism as a “serious violation of collegial trust, the fundamental principle on which the
integrity of medical journalism depends.” In addition to the violation of trust, it can also offend the rights of the original author. It is the “theft of intellectual property” and plagiarists are “stealing”
others’ words or ideas without permission.
To prevent plagiarism, we may resort to modern technology to detect it beforehand. Although it is generally difficult to detect plagiarism, advances in information technology are making it increasingly possible. For example, the availability of dedicated web site designed to provide information on plagiarism had made it easier for people to detect copying.
四六級(jí)英語作文14
Are some people born clever, and others born stupid? Or is intelligence developed by our environment or experience? Strangely enough, the answer to both questions is yes.On the one hand, if we take two people at random from the crowd, it is very likely that their degrees of intelligence will be completely different. However, if we take two identical twins, chances are that they will be as intelligent as each other. Therefore, a conclusion can be drawn that intelligence is to some extent something we are born with. The closer the blood relationship between two people, the closer they are likely to be in intelligence. On the other hand, though, if we put two identical twins in different environments, for example, we might send one to university and the other to a factory where the work is boring, we would find differences in their intelligence several years later, which indicates that environment does play a crucial role in our intelligence.Just as every coin has two sides, our intelligence is partly born and partly developed. The sure way to develop our intelligence is intelligent parents as well as a good environment.
