　　英語對我來說是一件苦差事，那些淘氣的字母怎么也鉆不進我的腦子里。

　　今天下午要上英語課時，老師在黑板上寫了一組英語單詞是“raining cat sand dogs”,讓我們講一講它的意思。我低下頭思索著：cats,dogs是“貓”和“狗”的復數(shù)形式，表示“許多貓”和“許多狗”，raining是“雨”的意思。合起來是什么呢？我正在冥思苦想，有同學舉起說說：“天上掉下來很多貓和狗。”頓時教室里的同學們哄堂大笑起來，互相交頭接耳，都在討論這個詞語的意思，最后還是老師解開了謎團。老師說：“同學們英語學得還可以，記住了每個單詞的含義。”這幾個單詞合起來的'意思是傾盆大雨。英語和漢語一樣，一些單詞和單詞組合起來有特殊的含義、固定的用法，就像漢語的成語、諺語似的。剛才老師說的這幾個單詞合起來，就不是單個兒的意思了，而是“傾盆大雨”的意思。
