英語(yǔ)高中作文 篇1
charm is the ultimate weapon, the supreme seduction, against which there are few defenses. if youve got it, you need neither money, looks, nor pedigree. its a gift, given only to give away, and the more used, the more there is. it is also a climate of behavior set for perpetual summer and thermostatically controlled by taste and tact.
true charm is an aura, an invisible musk in the air; if you see it working, the spell is broken. charm is dynamic, and cannot be turned on and off at will. as to its ingredients, there is no fied formula. a whole range of mysteries goes into the caldron, but the magic it offers must be absolute-one cannot be "almost" or "partly" charmed.in a woman, charm is probably more eacting than in a man, requiring a wider array of subtleties. it is a light in the face, an air of eclusive welcome, an almost impossibly sustained note of satisfaction in ones company, and regret without fuss at parting. a woman with charm finds no man dull; indeed, in her presence he becomes not just a different person but the person he most wants to be. such a woman gives life to his deep-held fantasies by adding the necessary conviction to his long suspicion that he is king.
of those women who have most successfully charmed me i remember chiefly their voices and eyes. their voices were intimate and enveloping. the listening eyes, supreme charm in a woman, betrayed no concern with any other world than this, warmly wrapping one round with total attention and turning ones lightest words to gold. theirs was a charm that must have continued to eist, like the flower in the desert, even when there was nobody there to see it.a womans charm spreads round her that particular glow of well-being for which any man will want to seek her out and, by making full use of her nature, celebrates the fact of his maleness and so gives him an etra shot of life. her charm lies also in that air of timeless maternalism, that calm and pacifying presence, which can dispel a mans moments of frustration and anger and restore his failures of will.
charm in a man, i suppose, is his ability to capture the complicity of a woman by a single-minded acknowledgment of her uniqueness. here again it is a question of being totally absorbed, of really forgetting that anyone else eists, for nothing more fatally betrays than the suggestion of a wandering eye. silent devotion is fine, but seldom sufficient; it is what a man says that counts, the bold declarations, the flights of fancy, the uncovering of secret virtues. a man is charmed through his eyes, a woman by what she hears, so no man need to be too anious about his age: as wizened voltaire once said: "give me a few minutes to talk away my face and i can seduce the queen of france."but charm isnt eclusively seual; it comes in a variety of cooler flavors. most children have it--till they are told they have it--and so do old people with nothing to lose; animals, too, of course. with children and smaller animals, it is often in the shape of the head and in the chaste unaccusing stare; with young girls and ponies, a certain stumbling awkwardness, a leggy inability to control their bodies. but all these are passive and appeal by capturing ones protective instincts.
you know who has charm. but can you acquire it? properly, you cant, because its an originality of touch you have to be born with. or its something that grows naturally out of another quality, like the simple desire to make people happy. certainly, charm is not a question of learning palpable tricks, like wrinkling your nose, or having a laugh in your voice. on the other hand, there is an antenna, a built-in awareness of others, which most people have, and which care can nourish.but in a study of charm, what else does one look for? apart from the ability to listen--rarest of all human virtues--apart from warmth, sensitivity, and the power to please, there is a generosity which makes no demands. charm spends itself willingly on young and old alike, on the poor, the ugly, the dim, the boring, on the last fat man in the corner. it reveals itself also in a sense of ease, in casual but perfect manners, and often in a physical grace which springs less from an accident of youth than from a confident serenity of mind. any person with this is more than just a popular fellow; he is also a social healer.
charm, in the end, is a most potent act of behavior, the laying down of a carpet by one person for another to give his eistence a moment of honor. it is close to love in that it moves without force, bearing gifts like the growth of daylight. it snares completely, but is never punitive. it disarms by being itself disarmed, strikes without wounds, wins wars without casualties--though not, of course, without victims.
in the armory of man, charm is the enchanted dart, light and subtle as a hummingbird. but it is deceptive in one thing--like a sense of humor, if you think youve got it, you probably havent.

I am the only child in my family, nowadays, people have the bad impression on the only child, they think the only child is spoiled by the parents, so they get bad temper and count on the parents so much. While I am not one of them, my parents are very strict to me, they never spoil me, when I make the mistake, they will tell me what the result will be which is caused by my mistake, so that I know I do the wrong thing and won’t do that again. My parents pay special attention to my independence, they will ask me to do the thing alone, sometimes they only teach me how to finish, but never give me a hand. To my parents’ education, at first, I feel they are unfair to me, but as I grow up, I am so thankful to them, they help me become a strong person.

英語(yǔ)高中作文 篇6
When holiday comes, thousands of people pour into the tourist sites, they want to relax themselves and enjoy the beautiful scenery. But Chinese people have a bad habit, they like to leave some notes on the site, proving them have been here before.
Such a behavior has been criticized by the public, because the leaving note will damage the preservation of the tourist site.
Most of the tourist sites are part of our country’s historical relics, these sites are priceless, it is everyone’s duty to protect the sites.
When we go to travel, we should behave ourselves. First, we need to have the idea that no rubbish being leaved behind when we leave the site. We should take away what we bring, keep the environment clean. Second, no any notes being written in the sites. Though in the old days, Chinese workers like to leave their names on the sites, but now it is a new world, we need to behave ourselves.

大部分景點(diǎn)是國(guó)內(nèi)的歷史文物,是無(wú)價(jià)的,保護(hù)文物是每一個(gè)人的責(zé)任。

英語(yǔ)高中作文 篇7
years ago, when i started looking for my first job, wise advisers urged, "barbara, be enthusiastic! enthusiasm will take you further than any amount of eperience."
how right they were. enthusiastic people can turn a boring drive into an adventure, etra work into opportunity and strangers into friends."nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm," wrote ralph waldo emerson. it is the paste that helps you hang in there when the going gets tough. it is the inner voice that whispers, "i can do it!" when others shout, "no, you cant."
it took years and years for the early work of barbara mcclintock, a geneticist who won the 1983 nobel prize in medicine, to be generally accepted. yet she didnt let up on her eperiments. work was such a deep pleasure for her that she never thought of stopping.we are all born with wide-eyed, enthusiastic wonder as anyone knows who has ever seen an infants delight at the jingle of keys or the scurrying of a beetle.
it is this childlike wonder that gives enthusiastic people such a youthful air, whatever their age.at 90, cellist pablo casals would start his day by playing bach. as the music flowed through his fingers, his stooped shoulders would straighten and joy would reappear in his eyes. music, for casals, was an eliir that made life a never ending adventure. as author and poet samuel ullman once wrote, "years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul."
how do you rediscover the enthusiasm of your childhood? the answer, i believe, lies in the word itself. "enthusiasm" comes from the greek and means "god within." and what is god within is but an abiding sense of love -- proper love of self (self-acceptance) and, from that, love of others.enthusiastic people also love what they do, regardless of money or title or power. if we cannot do what we love as a full-time career, we can as a part-time avocation, like the head of state who paints, the nun who runs marathons, the eecutive who handcrafts furniture.
elizabeth layton of wellsville, kan, was 68 before she began to draw. this activity ended bouts of depression that had plagued her for at least 30 years, and the quality of her work led one critic to say, "i am tempted to call layton a genius." elizabeth has rediscovered her enthusiasm.we cant afford to waste tears on "might-have-beens." we need to turn the tears into sweat as we go after "what-can-be."
we need to live each moment wholeheartedly, with all our senses -- finding pleasure in the fragrance of a back-yard garden, the crayoned picture of a si-year-old, the enchanting beauty of a rainbow. it is such enthusiastic love of life that puts a sparkle in our eyes, a lilt in our steps and smooths the wrinkles from our souls.

Dear Kim:
I feel so happy to hear that you are interested in the Chinese spring festival, which is one mostimportant symbol of Chinese culture. With my great honor, I am here sharing my knowledgeabout it with you.
The spring festival, also called Chinese New Year, enjoys a long history of over 4,000 years. Unlike other festivals, the Spring festival is a period of time, rather than a single day. It startsfrom the first day of a new year and ends on January 15th, , of course in the Chinese lunarcalendar. But people usually start to celebrate the Spring Festival on the day before the NewYear's Day, which is called "New Year's Eve", when all members of a family get together, have abig meal together(called Nian Ye Fan in Chinese) and watch the Spring Festival gala, indulged inthe especially warm and sweet atmosphere of reunion.
There are a variety of activities during the Spring festival, among which at least three deserveyour special attention. First, when the new year's first bell rings out the old year and rings inthe new, adults and children get out of the houses and light crackers and fireworks, whichdecorates the sky into a colorful and magnificent stage.
Then, on the morning of the New Year's Day, people get up very early to stick couplets, onwhich all good wished are presented. Meanwhile, the red color of the couplets adds much to thejoy of the splendid festival.
In addition, we have to visit our relatives from door to door as of the first day of the SpringFestival until the Lantern Festival, which is supposed to be a conclusion of the whole SpringFestival.
Kim, the short letter here surely fails me to give you a complete account of our Spring Festival. I sincerely hope, if possible, that you can come here in China to have a real experience aboutit.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua

Parents, especially those of teenagers, care about their children’s education more than anything else. They could do everything for their children. Many of them spend most of their spare time coaching their children in studies; those who have time or cannot do it have hired tutors. Some also send children to after-class schools. Some even have tried to mould their home environment more favorable for study. It seems as if a better education is all that parents expect for children.
The present situation can be explained by the following reasons. First of all, as our country’s economy moves ahead healthily, many parents have become aware that future success depends more and more on skills and education. Lack of training and education will no longer ensure young people to have a promising future. Secondly, it is evident that in a competitive society there are both losers and winners. The better skills and knowledge children possess, the more opportunities they will be ensures. What is more, with school tuitions increasing it is also reasonable for parents to expect their children to be somebody or do something great as a result of education they have received.
Certainly, it is good to see much of parents’ attention on children’s education. However, in my opinion, emphasis should also be laid on fostering other abilities and personal qualities. True, it is important to learn to succeed, but the first thing to learn is how to survive and how to be a qualified citizen. If this is included in good education that parents are seeking now, their children will be definitely ensured not only of a bright future but also a sound intellectual and mental foundation, hence a healthy life.
