let us suppose that you are in the position of a parent. would you allow your children to read any book they wanted to without first checking its contents? would you take your children to see any film without first finding out whether it is suitable for them? if your answer to these questions is ‘yes’, then you are either extremely permissive, or just plain irresponsible. if your answer is ‘no’, then you are exercising your right as a parent to protect your children from what you consider to be undesirable influences. in other words, by acting as a censor yourself, you are admitting that there is a strong case for censorship.

now, of course, you will say that it is one thing to exercise censorship where children are concerned and quite another to do the same for adults. children need protection and it is the parents’ they old enough to decide what is good for them? the answer is that many adults are, but don’t make the mistake of thinking that all adults are like yourself. censorship is for the good of society as a whole. highly civilized people might find it possible to live amicably together without laws of any kind: they would just rely on good sense to solve their problems. but imagine what chaos there would be if we lived in a society without laws! like the law, censorship contributes to the common good.some people think that it is disgraceful that a censor should interfere with works of art. who is this person, they say, to ban this great book or cut that great film? no one can set himself up as a superior being. but we must remember two things. firstly, where genuine works of art are concerned, modern censors are extremely liberal in their views—often far more liberal than a large section of the public. artistic merit is something which censors clearly recognize. and secondly, we must bear in mind that the great proportion of books, plays and films which come before the censor are very far from being ‘works of art’.

when discussing censorship, therefore, we should not confine our attention to great masterpieces, but should consider the vast numbers of publications and films which make up the bulk of the entertainment industry. when censorship laws are relaxed, unscrupulous people are given a license to produce virtually anything in the name of ‘a(chǎn)rt’. there is an increasing tendency to equate ‘a(chǎn)rtistic’ with ‘pornographic’. the vast market for pornography would rapidly be exploited. one of the great things that censorship does is to prevent certain people from making fat profits by corrupting the minds of others. to argue in favor of absolute freedom is to argue in favor of anarchy. society would really be the poorer if it deprived itself of the wise counsel and the restraining influence which a censor provides.

There are many theories about the origin of ancient Greek drama. The most widely accepted theory today is based on the assumption that drama evolved from ritual. The argument for this view is as follows: at the beginning, human beings regarded the natural forces of the world, even the seasonal changes, as unpredictable.

They sought means to control these unknown and frightening forces in various ways. The measures that seemed to bring about the expected results were retained and repeated until they became fixed rituals, and over time, the solution was solved Stories of interpreting or concealing the secrets of rituals have emerged, and some rituals have been abandoned, but stories later called myths still exist to provide material for art and drama, and those who believe that drama evolved from ritual also argue that these rituals contain the seeds of drama, for music, dance, masks and costumes are almost always used. In addition, a suitable venue must be provided for the performance.

When the whole community is not involved, there will be a clear division, usually between the "performance area" and the "auditorium". In addition, there are performers. Due to the importance of avoiding mistakes in the process of ritual formulation, religious leaders usually assume that the task is to wear masks and costumes, and they often imitate other peoples animals or super The revival of the sun as an actor may eventually be separated from religious activities.

Another theory traces the origin of drama to human interest in stories. According to this view, stories of hunting wars or other feats are first elaborated through the narrators imitation of actions and dialogues And then each role is played by different people, and a closely related theory traces drama back to dances that are primarily rhythmic and gymnastic, or that mimic animal movements and sounds.

Theater is a form of art that has been around for centuries and is loved by people all over the world. It combines music, dance, and drama to tell a story and transport the audience into another world. In this essay, I will discuss the importance of theater in English language learning and why students should be encouraged to participate in drama productions.

Firstly, theater can help students improve their language skills in English. By participating in drama productions, students are not only exposed to the language but also have the opportunity to use it in a practical way. During rehearsals, students will need to converse with their fellow actors, directors, and stage technicians, which will improve their speaking and listening skills. They will also need to read劇本in order to familiarize themselves with their characters and the plot, which will improve their reading comprehension.

Secondly, theater can help students develop their confidence and self-esteem. In drama productions, students will need to perform in front of an audience, which can be quite intimidating for some people. However, by participating in drama productions, students will learn to overcome their stage fright and perform in front of others with confidence. This confidence will translate into other areas of their lives as well, helping them to become more self-assured individuals.

Thirdly, theater can help students develop their creativity and imagination. In drama productions, students will need to use their creativity and imagination in order to fully immerse themselves into their characters and the plot. They will also need to use these skills during rehearsals when they are figuring out how to execute the director’s vision for the play. By participating in drama productions, students will learn to trust their instincts and use their creativity to its full potential.

In conclusion, theater is an excellent way for students to improve their English language skills while also developing their confidence, creativity, and imagination. It is a unique experience that allows students to explore another dimension of human expression and connect with others on a deeper level. Therefore, students should be encouraged to participate in drama productions as it can help them grow as individuals and enhance their overall development.
