英語作為國際通用語，其重要地位越來越得到大家的共識。因為，“我們不能忽視一個巨人的存在”（英國某語言專家語）。所以，我們要下定決心，排除萬難，掌握英語。而構建你英語大廈的基礎，就是詞匯。
1．詞匯學習的重要性。英語能力培養(yǎng)程序：詞匯-語法-聽-說-讀-寫。英語高分訓練程序：詞匯-讀-寫。這兩套程序是語言學和認知學研究的成果，次序千萬不能顛倒。詞匯是基礎，是素材，是細胞，不要指望詞匯基本功不扎實的人能夠考出高分；閱讀是中國人學習外語的最佳途徑，也是目前各類外語考試的最主要題型；寫作是掌握外語，檢驗自己水平的最主要方式。有興趣的人可以參考這方面的專著。
2。詞匯的學習最困難。如果有人說不，他保證是“唯心主義”。那既然如此，有無捷徑？這兒就有一條捷徑，穿越時空隧道，到達夢幻之境。詞匯的學習要以變應變，在不同的階段，要有不同的方法。想一想你是如何記住face和pencil的？死記硬背，“無他法，唯手熟爾”（賣油翁）。所以，從原理上來說，詞匯的學習離開死記硬背是不行的，因為，外語的學習要點在于記憶，死記硬背好比打基礎，離開了他，毫無大廈可言。如果你的詞匯量在5000以下，買一本詞匯書，詞匯量在3000（背功不行）5000（背功還行）7500（背功很好）。選擇標準有三：1。有音標；2有詞性；3內容簡單，沒有例句。
你是如何記住facial,surface,deface;acclaim,declaim,proclaim的？因為你知道-face-,-claim-的意義。所以，詞根詞綴法是你學習詞匯第二階段的方法。詞根詞綴法的意義我就不多說了，你是如何記住flagrant和fragrant的？因為你知道-l-(一根大棒),-r-(一朵鮮花)，所以他們的意義就井然分明了。聯想記憶法是你學習詞匯第三階段的方法。唯有聯想，才能強力擴大詞匯范圍。聯想記憶法有時也叫做邪門記憶法，這方面的.書很多。
3.如何運用詞典擴大詞匯量。關于辭典。詞匯的學習離不開詞典，如何選用她至關重要。我做一個Prediction，70%的人用的是牛津和朗文。但是你如果看一下英語專業(yè)的考試大綱的話，你會發(fā)現，COLLINSCOBUILD和WEBSTER’SCOLLEGEDICTIONARY才是最好的工具書。我用的就是后者。為什么要推薦這倆本呢？1、釋義詳細，簡練；2、提高詞匯在上下文的理解能力；3、后者還提供詞源，方便理解與記憶。
4.詞匯量大對閱讀的幫助。閱讀有三個層次：字面意義，行間意義，言外之意。試題考察的比例一般為2：2：1。字面意義不必多說，對于行間意義和言外之意的理解，需要高超的技巧，一般的閱讀書上都有，在此我提一下篇章結構的作用。篇章結構對于解答行間意義和言外之意的提問特別有效。

Smoking
It is known to everyone that srnoking is harmful to our health. Research conducted in many countries has indicated that smoking causes lung cancer, heart disease and various respiratory illnesses.

Some have imposed heavy taxes on tabacco products, others have conducted anti-smoking campaigns.In theatres,cinemas and some public places nonsmoking is often demanded by authorities.
However, none of the governments have even considered prohibiting the sale of tobacco. This is due partly to the political power of the big tobacco companies and partly to the fact that so many people, particularly in influential position in society, are habitual smokers. Tobacco farmers and workers are also strongly opposed to legislation. In fact, smoking is not only a matter of habit but also a matter of profits.

the different society structure plays an important part in the education system. in china, all those who can enter the university have received an elite education and before enrollment they have devoted themselves to hard studying. therefore, they are good at getting high marks on mathematics, psychics and so on. however, they are lack of chances to practice skills in real world thus having no social experiences. in that case, after graduation, most students find it difficult to find a satisfactory job though many of them get a job through the relationship net.
while in america, the education system pays more attention to social skills than to marks .students have developed the ability to be independence in life and work. after university, they show great capability of thinking, innovation and creation which make them keep pace with the modern world. they are competent for the challenging work and can gain a good job in america with ease.

We can easily recognize the significance of attitude in terms of happiness. On the one hand, some have suffered a great deal but generally remain happy. On the other hand, people who have a relatively easy and comfortable life, and yet are essentially unhappy.
