英語作文 篇1
In the last hundred years we have seen inventions that have not only greatly improved our lives but changed the way we live. While there is no way to predict exactly what our scientists and entrepreneurs will come up with in the 21st century, there are indications that advances will be made in certain areas.
First, advances will continue to be made in the field of medicine that will allow people to live longer and healthier lives. Biotechnology in the field of genetics may someday allow us to develop bodies that are stronger and free of inherited defects. Second, new technology has already brought people around the world closer. This trend will continue in the 21st century as communication becomes more efficient and affordable. Third, we can expect a growing population and demands for a higher standard of living to put increasing pressure on the earth’s resources. We have already seen some of the effects of this pressure in the form of pollution and global warming.
It is likely that these trends will also continue and that more damage to the environment will be done. On the other hand, perhaps we will find more efficient ways to make use of the available resources or develop alternative forms of energy. In that case, we may live in better harmony with nature.

英語作文 篇4
A cry for Nature ConservationAs is depicted in the picture entitled “cries from our descendants” a boy is calling on his ancestors — citizens today throughout the world — to ensure a better environment and a greater abundance of natural resources for future generations.
With a forced smile on the face he is crying bitterly and desperately. Such a scene can just put us deep in thought. The drawer of the picture intends to force us to ask ourselves some very thought provoking questions concerning nature conservation. Are we willing to be more conservative in our life requirements and are we willing to moderate our use of the world's resources for our descendants?
Can we in fact reduce our consumption of petroleum coal and electricity in order to reduce the pollution and environmental pressures created by excessive energy use and to allow others to live a better life? Are we willing to spend more money for pollution control and environmental restoration? Are we willing to devote more effort to recycling?
Can we moderate our demand for fat rich diets and super processed convenience food? These are some of the central issues of the present?day world and ones on which the quality of present and future environments may depend. As citizens in the modern world it is our duty to give thought to the living environment and conditions of our offspring. We must take positive actions to remedy the worsening situation which is sadly threatening to ruin every corner of the world.
Only in this way can the boy stop crying and show some respect to his ancestors.
英語作文 篇5
This simple picture represents a situation that every person must face: when approaching ajunction, which direction should one choose?
Most viewers can empathize with the sense of hesitation and uncertainty embodied insuch an image. Without exception, everyone has to make choices in life, whether they concernschool, career, or love. While some choices are simple, one cannot avoid the task of makingdifficult decisions.
Choices are often directly related to one’s happiness. University students, for example, facea hard and crucial decision upon graduating. Many students have difficulty deciding whether tocontinue studying or begin developing a career. Every individual is different, and one must takethe factors of one’s personal life into consideration. In addition to an awareness of specificcircumstances, however, making the right choice also depends on correct appraisal of oneself.
In order to choose correctly, therefore, one must be both realistic and self aware.Furthermore, once having made a decision, one should seriously accept and pursue the pathone has chosen, and strive towards the realization of one’s goal with spirit.
英語作文 篇6
British Columbia is the third largest Canadian provinces, both in area and population. It is nearly 1.5 times as large as Texas, and extends 800 miles(1,280km) north from the United States border. It includes Canada's entire west coast and the islands just off the coast.
Most of British Columbia is mountainous, with long rugged ranges running north and south. Even the coastal islands are the remains of a mountain range that existed thousands of years ago. During the last Ice Age, this range was scoured by glaciers until most of it was beneath the sea. Its peaks now show as islands scattered along the coast.
The southwestern coastal region has a humid mild marine climate. Sea winds that blow inland from the west are warmed by a current of warm water that flows through the Pacific Ocean. As a result, winter temperatures average above freezing and summers are mild. These warm western winds also carry moisture from the ocean.
Inland from the coast, the winds from the Pacific meet the mountain barriers of the coastal ranges and the Rocky Mountains. As they rise to cross the mountains, the winds are cooled, and their moisture begins to fall as rain. On some of the western slopes almost 200 inches (500cm) of rain fall each year.
More than half of British Columbia is heavily forested. On mountain slopes that receive plentiful rainfall, huge Douglas firs rise in towering columns. These forest giants often grow to be as much as 300 feet(90m) tall, with diameters up to 10 feet(3m). More lumber is produced from these trees than from any other kind of tree in North America. Hemlock, red cedar, and balsam fir are among the other trees found in British Columbia.
