Chinese Names
Chinese people usually have two word or three word names: the family name, a middle name and the last name.
Family names always come tirst. For example, my full name is Bai Junwei. Bai is my family name. Junwei is my given name. But some Chinese people don't have the middle name. For example, a man called Zhou Jian. Zhou is his family name, and Jian is his given name.
People often use Mr. , Mrs. , or Miss before their family names, but never before.their given names. So you can say "Mr. Zhou", but you could never say "Mr.Jian".
Chinese names are different from English names. In England, the last name is the family name. The first and the middle name is tile given name. For example, there is a man called Jim Henry Brown. Brown is his family name. Jim Henry is his given name. Another difference between~ E.nglish and Chinese names is that in China, the younger people's names shouldn't be the same as the elder's in the family. For example, my grandpa's name is Guo Dong, so i can't be called Guo Dong again. This shows that we respect the old people.
In the family, people usually call me Weiwei for short. This is because it is shorter and easier than Bai Junwei, and it also they love me. In one word, Chinese names are quite different from English names.
Restaurants and snack bars in Beijing started serving this seasonal dish last week, and expect a sales peak on Tuesday.
Citizens can also eat a bowl of Laba porridge for free in many Buddhist temples, since the tradition of celebrating Laba Festival originated in Buddhist culture.
In Guanghua Temple in central Beijing, more than 20 workers and volunteer citizens started cooking Laba porridge in twelve huge pots on Monday night, which they expect to hand out to several thousands of temple-goers on Tuesday.
Residents in a Hangzhou community cook and eat Laba porridge together. Laba Festival, the eighth day of the twelfth lunar month, falls on January 15 this year.
Fang Hui Chun Tang, an old, well-reputed pharmacy in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou, also has the tradition of serving free porridge on Laba. Nutritious Chinese herbs are mixed into their dish, and a xylitol-based recipe is prepared for people with diabetes. The pharmacy expects to receive some 12,000 visitors on the special day.
Neighborhoods in Chinese cities join up to cook and eat Laba porridge. Qi Guifeng, 75, is an organizer of one such public meal in Hangzhou. She called in several senior citizens in her community to buy the materials and serve the porridge in the community's public yard.
"We get together to do a good thing and have fun. We are glad our neighbors can have a bowl of hot porridge," Zhang Meiqin, one of Qi's neighbors, said.
Dragon Boat race Traditions At the center of this festival are the dragon boat races. Competing teams drive their colorful dragon boats forward to the rhythm of beating drums. These exciting races were inspired by the villager's valiant attempts to rescue Chu Yuan from the Mi Lo river. This tradition has remained unbroken for centuries.
Tzung Tzu A very popular dish during the Dragon Boat festival is tzung tzu. This tasty dish consists of rice dumplings with meat, peanut, egg yolk, or other fillings wrapped in bamboo leaves. The tradition of tzung tzu is meant to remind us of the village fishermen scattering rice across the water of the Mi Low river in order to appease the river dragons so that they would not devour Chu Yuan.
Ay Taso The time of year of the Dragon Boat Festival, the fifth lunar moon, has more significance than just the story of Chu Yuan. Many Chinese consider this time of year an especially dangerous time when extra efforts must be made to protect their family from illness. Families will hang various herbs, called Ay Tsao, on their door for protection. The drinking of realgar wine is thought to remove poisons from the body. Hsiang Bao are also worn. These sachets contain various fragrant medicinal herbs thought to protect the wearer from illness.

(Will China win the most Olympic Gold Medals?)
Before the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949, Chinese athletes had participated in three Olympic Games but won nothing. Since 1949, China has participated in six summer and seven winter Olympics, winning 112 gold medals in summer Olympics. At the Los Angeles, Barcelona and Atlanta Olympics, China came fourth in the gold medals table, and second at the Athens Olympics.
At the 20xx Olympics, China took home 63 medals, 36 of them (57.1 percent of the total) being won by young athletes; 10 of the gold medal winners were under 20 years old. This demonstrates the increasing maturity of China's young athletes and growing overall strength in competitive sports.
So what about Beijing Olympic Games? Will we take the place of USA to be 1st? I believe so absolutely!
Last Qingming Festival,I return home to worship my grandfather.Qingming
Festival is a folk Festival. In the past,In the past, the Qingming Festival was called "Arbor Day". But Today, Chinese visit their family graves to tend to any underbrush that has grown. Weeds are pulled, and dirt swept away, and the family will set out offerings of food and spirit money. Unlike the sacrifices at a family's home altar, the offerings at the tomb usually consist of dry, bland food. One theory is that since any number of ghosts rome around a grave area, the less appealing food will be consumed by the ancestors, and not be plundered by strangers.
With the passing of time, this celebration of life became a day to the honor past ancestors. Following folk religion, the Chinese believed that the spirits of deceased ancestors looked after the family. Sacrifices of food and spirit money could keep them happy, and the family would prosper through good harvests and more children.

Just as Christmas Day to the westerners, Spring Festival is the most important time to us Chinese.
Spring Festival is usually in February, but this year, it started on January 28th.
As usual, I went to my grandparents’ home with my dad and mum to celebrate it. A big family gathered there, eating “New Year’s Eve dinner” around a big round table. Traditionally, we have drinks and chaffy dishes. During the dinner, grandparents may give us red-packets, and we should say something happy and lucky to them. This New Year, for I had caught a cold, my first wish to ourselves was to be always healthy. After dinner, it was the most exciting thing on this eve, yes, that was to set off fireworks. We first lit some small ones to have a experiment. But all my cousins were so scared that they didn’t want to do it by themselves. Instead, they went up to the living room and watched me through the window from a distance. Yes, it was me that did it. On such occasions, it is always my job to light the fireworks and I really enjoy it. The fireworks were so beautiful and seemed magic. I was sorry that my vocabularies were so limited that I could found no words to describe it but recalled the fantastic moment again and again. They were of different colors, shining, up and down. First, it rose from the ground like a rocket with a long glowing tail. Then, it disappeared in the darkness up in the sky. In a blink of an eye, it appeared like a blooming of a flower, the light turned bigger and bigger, soon painted the sky into red. How magnificent!
Of course, the next thing to do was to watch the program on CCTV 1. It is a tradition among Chinese.
At that moment, the time seemed to move so fast, not long after, the clock had already struck 12 times while so many crackers exploded outside.

The Dragon Boat Festival is a lunar holiday, occurring on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month holiday, occurring on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month
The Chinese Dragon Boat Festival is a significant holiday celebrated in China, and the one with the longest history . The Dragon Boat Festival is celebrated by boat races in the shape of dragons. Competing teams row their boats forward to a drumbeat racing to reach the finish end first.
The boat races during the Dragon Boat Festival are traditional customs to attempts to rescue the patriotic poet Chu Yuan. Chu Yuan drowned on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in 277 B.C. Chinese citizens now throw bamboo leaves filled with cooked rice into the water. Therefore the fish could eat the rice rather than the hero poet. This later on turned into the custom of eating tzungtzu and rice dumplings.
